Limoncello: a bar for the favorite of liqueurs

Limoncello - that's concentrated lemon in a glass - iced. In southern Italy, people know how to cool down and refresh themselves on a hot summer evening. Why not open a limoncello bar at your next party? It's guaranteed to be a highlight.

Limoncello! Oh Limoncello! It’s simply love… Served ice cold, it is a wonderfully fruity refreshment on a hot summer’s day. In Italy, it is usually served as an aperitif or as a digestif. On the Amalfi Coast, it is poured into ice-cold ceramic cups. The squeaky yellow liqueur is also often used there in the preparation of cakes, ice creams and other desserts.

But today we have something different in mind! We’re putting the liqueur in the spotlight and creating a limoncello bar! This is a really special idea when guests are coming. Ideal for a celebration or a party.

Schritt für Schritt durch´s Rezept

  1. Step 1
Place the blanket over the table.
  2. Step 2
Label the name cards with ingredients that will later be offered in bowls, i.e. ice, mint, lemon slices.
  3. Step 3
Cut three lemons into wedges and pluck a handful of mint leaves. Place the slices, mint leaves and ice in a bowl and place them in the front row of your bar. Place the name cards to match.
  4. Step 4
Set up a second row behind the small bowls with the Limocello bottles, the Prosecco and the water dispensers. The long drink glasses can also be placed in this row.
  5. Step 5
You can also add lemon wedges or mint to the water dispensers for flavoring. It looks particularly attractive if you place the dispensers on a pedestal. We have used a wooden trunk for this.
  6. Step 6
Fill the champagne cooler with ice and place shot glasses filled with Limoncello on top of the ice. Now place the cooler on the bar (or on a side table, as we did)
  7. Step 7
Now decorate the tables with pots of herbs, flowers, fresh lemons and grissini, which you present in glasses.

The bright lemon liqueur from Amalfi, Sorrento & Co

The production of limoncello in Italy is naturally concentrated in areas where suitable lemons grow: from Sorrento to the Amalfi Coast, on the Gulf of Naples and on the islands of Ischia, Capri and Procida. Impressive lemons also grow in Sicily, Apulia and Sardinia.

The legendary lemons from Sorrento for limoncello, which you can buy from Gustini, grow on trellises directly above the blue sea. They are incredibly fruity and smell heavenly. They store extra lemon oil in their thick, sun-yellow skin. The variety is called Femminello St. Teresa and is known as Sorrento lemon.

Production of limoncello

When making lemon liqueur, the peel (it is very important to only use the yellow peel and not the bitter white layer underneath) is soaked in 95% alcohol. The peel of about five large lemons is needed to prepare one liter of liqueur. The lemon oil is released by the alcohol and gives the liqueur a rich yellow color. The alcohol is then mixed with simple syrup.
